GARNERing Stories: Halloween Weekend!

The story of getting our pumpkins is in my Previous post, but the costumes and other activities are yet to see the blog, so here goes.
Thursday night (10/27) was the preschool fun fest benefitting Ronald McDonald house with the silent auction. Though some of the kiddos wore costumes, Alexis was still in her red Rhodes College T-shirt for "wear red" day and the reading of Llama Llama Red Pajama. She played a few games, experienced easy cheese for the first time, and got some candy. Her decorated pumpkin from the pumpkin dive was awarded the "best use of a feather" award.

Friday, she got to dress up for the school costume parade. I sent her in her costume but made sure to pack a warmer outfit that also had tinkerbell on it for later in the day. She came home and wanted to sleep in her other Tinkerbelle outfit. She's looking forward to wearing her costume once again on Monday though!

Saturday, was a pirate themed birthday party. She went in a halloween shirt, jumped, ate cake, told the little boy over and over that he needed to see the card she made him because "you can't wait to see it" and collected her pirate booty (chocolate gold coins in the goody bag).

Later was a chance for mommy and daddy to dress up for 2 halloween costume parties. I went as "Tinkerbelle's mom" since Alexis is Tinkerbelle this year and Grant went as Darth Maul sans face paint. We saw several very creative costumes throughout the evening between the two parties and had a good time while Alexis watched The Incredibles and hung out with Katie while Andrew snoozed.
At the first party, we aren't sure who won the best costume, but some of the creative ones were: people of Wal-Mart, sultry Sherlock Holmes, Katy Perry & Russell Brand, and the wolfman. At the second party, we saw a couple of Zombies, Alice & Mad Hatter, plug & outlet.

Monday evening, we went to the LBC Fall Fest. Grant and I still dressed up, but I modified my Tinkerbell's mom outfit...Alexis asked where my pretty dress was but I thought a green top and jeans would be easier for chasing kids, so along with the head piece and wings a green shirt was my costume. Bam Bam was really only interested in wandering around aimlessly, stealing footballs from a game and occasionally flinging through the styrofoam in the baby pool. Alexis on the other hand was after the candy and was happy to do the games and get it. After about an hour plus there, we headed home. Andrew was sooo ready to go to bed and Alexis was ready to go trick-or-treating. We started out a little late, but she was ready to go bouncing along the sidewalk. She was, for the most part, a very polite trick or treater, saying "trick-or-treat, please" and "thank you happy halloween" At one house, she told them they were supposed to have pumpkins, but they didn't and at another when the person was teasing her and asked what she was going to give him, she gave him a Tootsie Roll Pop so he gave her an extra of what he was giving out. (He kept the Tootsie Pop because he liked those and his kids were too old to trick-or-treat). A family also accidentally let their dog out while we were at the door and he was having a grand time avoiding capture by one kid holding the candy bowl, the teenager of the house and his friend. Oops.
